Curiosities of the Sonoran Desert
A visual exploration of flora unique to the Sonoran Desert, this work seeks to communicate the mystery, beauty, and resilience of botanical life in the Southwestern United States. The individual photographs are small, printed on vellum, and backed with 24-karat gold. Their jewel-like appearance suggests the preciousness of these desert plants. Image shapes are reminiscent of historical photographs often seen in family albums. The project is supported by a Research and Development Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts with funding from the Newton and Betty Rosenzweig Fund for the Arts, an endowment held at the Arizona Community Foundation.
